Khalid Al-Kinani, Professor and Dept. Chair, University of Baghdad

Khalid Al-Kinani is a distinguished Professor and Department Chair at the University of Baghdad, renowned for his expertise in the field of biologics. He also serves as a mamber of the 2nd Medicines Reguistration Committee at the Iraqi Ministry of Health (MOH) and a former Head of Biologics and Biosimilars Registration Committee (BBRC) at the Iraqi MOH. In this role, he was responsible for assessing marketing authorization applications (MAAs) of biological medicines, including vaccines and biosimilars and granting marketing authorizations following rigorous Common Technical Dossier (CTD) assessments and targeted manufacturer inspestions. Dr. Al-Kinani is a key member of the Biosimilars Taskforce, established in 2019, which works alongside the Iraqi National Formulary Board (INFB) to facilitate the introduction of biosimilars to the Iraqi healthcare system, aiming to enhance patient access to biological medicines. In addition to his academic and regulatory roles, Dr. Al-Kinani is the Iraqi Pharmacists Syndicate President's Advisor for Pharmaceutical Industry Affairs, where he provides expert guidance on issues related to the pharmaceutical industry in Iraq. Dr. Al-Kinani earned his Ph.D. in Pharmaceutics, specializing in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, from the University of Kansas, School of Pharmacy, USA, in 2017. He also holds a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree in Pharmacy from the University of Baghdad, College of Pharmacy, earned in 2004 and 2010, respectively. He teaches both undergraduate and graduate-level courses and has supervised dozens of Master's and Ph.D. students in pharmacy, guiding them through advanced research in pharmaceutics and pharmaceutical sciences. Dr. Al-Kinani is an active consultant for the WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean (EMRO), contributing his expertise to various projects. He has also previously served as the Head of the Bioavailability and Bioequivalence Studies Assessment Unit and a member of the Technical Committee for Pharmaceutical Industries at the Iraqi MoH. Dr. Al-Kinani is a member of several professional organizations, including the Parenteral Drug Association (PDA), the Iraqi Syndicate of Pharmacists, and the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS).
