Wouter Verdurmen | Assistant Professor
Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre

Wouter Verdurmen, Assistant Professor, Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre

Dr. Wouter Verdurmen is an Assistant Professor at Radboud University Medical Center, specializing in biologics and immunotherapy. He studied Biomedical Sciences at Radboud University Nijmegen (the Netherlands) and obtained his PhD cum laude in 2012, focusing on the cellular delivery of biomacromolecules. He then conducted postdoctoral research in the laboratory of Prof. Andreas Plückthun at the University of Zurich, where he worked on engineering proteins for cytosolic delivery. Since 2016, Dr. Verdurmen has led his own research group at Radboud University Medical Center. His work focuses on developing modular therapeutic proteins for cytosolic protein delivery and local therapeutic protein production using viral vector-based approaches, primarily in the context of cancer. A key aspect of his research involves utilizing advanced microfluidic tumor-on-a-chip systems with innate immune cells to mimic dynamic in vivo tumor characteristics and evaluate immunotherapeutic effects in vitro. With a strong background in molecular biology and immunology, Dr. Verdurmen pursues an innovative approach to generating non-clinical data based on human measurement models, driving advancements in next-generation biologic therapies.
